Clan MacIntyre – A Journey to the Past

Clan MacIntyre Association

The definitive MacIntyre Clan history book. Clan MacIntyre – A Journey to the Past by Martin L. MacIntyre, July 2018.  320 pages, 104 photographs, maps, charts, tables, drawings, historic documents, tour guide, poems and music compositions. There is something for MacIntyres / Wrights of all ages and interests.

The first published history was The MacIntyres of Glenoe and Camus-na-h-Erie by Duncan MacIntyre, 14th chieftain of Camus-na-h-Erie, 20 pages and one illustration, 1901.  In 1978, L. D. MacIntyre published the second history, Clan MacIntyre – A Journey to the Past, 82 pages, 30 photographs and illustrations, based on his 50 years of research and the 1936 unpublished history by Alexander James MacIntyre of Inveraray. “… at age 94 and only one month before departing this world, L.D. MacIntyre finally achieved the three goals he set out to accomplish 60 years earlier - locating the MacIntyre chief  (1933), completing a clan history (1978), and achieving the Chief’s recognition in Scotland(1991).”

In 1995, the 3,000 copies were sold out and his son, Martin L. MacIntyre decided to reprint his father’s book with a short update. Instead, he kept adding chapters until, 23 years later,  it became a new history with something for MacIntyres of all ages and interests published just in time for the 2nd World Gathering in 2018.

The book is divided into four parts: Part I - the history of Scotland and Clan MacIntyre with a thorough discussion of the Clan’s oral traditions, including a hole in a boat, murder mystery, snowball and white cattle; Part II - heraldry and genealogy of the chiefly Houses; Part III - culture, stories, poems, musical compositions; and Part IV -  extensive appendixes for serious researchers.
